12.10.14 | WISDOM 11x15 Blueprint for Ending Mass Incarceration

On December 10, 2014 WISDOM held a meeting on the 11x15 Blueprint for Ending Mass Incarceration which will pull together the many actions and policy changes that can to be taken by the Administration and the Legislature in the coming year to safely reduce Wisconsin’s prison population. The solutions promoted by the Blueprint are not difficult or experimental. The Blueprint will show that following best practices already in place in Wisconsin and in neighboring states could have an immediate and dramatic effect on the state’s bloated prison population and prison budget.

12.05.14 | Governor's Northern Wisconsin Economic Development Summit (Part 1)

Day 2 of the Governor's Northern Wisconsin Economic Development Summit featured opening remarks from Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch (R-Wisconsin), as well as a general session with DWD Chief Labor Economist Dennis Winters who presented on the northern Wisconsin labor market, outlining current trends and issues. Following his presentation, representatives from the Department of Workforce Development, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, University of Wisconsin System, and Wisconsin Technical College System presented on how the State of Wisconsin is collaborating to ensure that employers have access to the resources they need to fill available jobs and train skilled workers.

11.20.14 | Public Service Commission Natural Gas Conference (Part 1)

On November 20, 2014, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission held a natural gas conference where they discussed the recent boom in shale gas production, in which the U.S. has become the largest gas producing nation in the world.  The export of natural gas, construction of new pipelines, use of natural gas vehicles, and increase in natural gas-fired electric generation has resulted in record-breaking gas production growth in the U.S.  These new ways to utilize and move natural gas have brought regional and national benefits, but have also contributed to uncertainty about gas supply, costs, and reliability.  Specifically, many Wisconsin natural gas customers experienced significant price increases during the winter of 2013-14.  Panelists discussed what we can expect for 2015 and beyond?
