On June 25, 2015 the Wisconsin Public Utility Institute hosted an event on water and energy entitled "The Undiluted Cost of Energy and Water." During this portion of the program a keynote address was given by Mary Ann Dickinson, President & CEO of the Alliance for Water Efficiency as well as remarks from Kevin Vesperman, an administrator with the Department of Administration's Division of Energy Services, on the State of our State in regards to new an upcoming requirements for clean water and storm water in Wisconsin.

During this portion of the forum, Victoria Pebbles, Program Director at the Great Lakes Commission discussed Phase I of the Great Lakes Energy-Water Nexus (GLEW) Initiative on how they developed new metrics to measure aquatic resource impacts from water used for power generation and conducted analyses to inform potential changes in environmental impacts from different energy futures.

During this portion of the forum Professor Greg Harrington of UW-Madison spoke about the energy costs associated with moving, treating, metering, and removing water all to result in a clean glass of water.

During this portion of the forum Jeff Stone and Denise Schmidt of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission spoke about the drivers of change in water rates and water efficiency in the 21st century, respectively.  Andy Bielanski of the Environmental Protection Agency also discussed resiliency and security and the need for re-thinking our water infrastructure.

During this portion of the forum, Robin Schmidt of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources spoke about the Green Project Financial Support the DNR/EPA uses to help smaller system programs operate, and Lawrie Kobza of Boardman and Clark, LLP discussed the best techniques for capital planning. This was followed by a panel discussion to answer questions from the attendees of the forum.

The final portion of the forum included a case study from Mike Davis, the Middleton City Administrator, on how new rates incorporate costs associated with an innovative water conservation program. The forum concluded with a presentation from Tom Heikkinen, General Manager of Madison Water Utility on how Madison is prepared for the future with new meters and a more interactive way to gauge your personal water consumption and usage on your water bill.
